Priebus: Biden Is a 'Gifted Orator'

By    |   Sunday, 07 October 2012 12:38 PM EDT

Vice President Joe Biden might be famous making gaffes but he also “knows his stuff” and is a “gifted orator,” GOP National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said on CNN as he sought to dial back expectations for Rep. Paul Ryan in the upcoming debate.

"I think they're two different people, and I think it's going to be a great night," Priebus told CNN’s Candy Crowley. Ryan, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, will face Biden in the first vice presidential debate on Thursday at Centre College in Danville, Ky.

"I think people realize that Joe Biden is a gifted orator. He's very good at rhetoric. And I think he's very relatable," Priebus said.

Biden may make gaffes but he has a lot of experience, Priebus said.
"He knows his stuff.”

“Joe Biden has of late put his foot in his mouth in very public ways, I mean he said that the middle class was crushed under the policies of Obama and Biden and he’s said some things that were problematic,”
Priebus said.

Priebus is trying to raise expectations for the vice president ahead of the debate as a CNN poll found 55 percent saying Ryan would win the debate, with 39 percent picking Biden.
