Beck Reveals America's Greatest Threat

By    |   Tuesday, 20 November 2007 08:23 PM EST

Political correctness is the greatest threat to America, says noted radio and CNN host Glenn Beck, and he’s fighting back the best way he knows how — with the unvarnished truth.

His new book, “An Inconvenient Book: Real Solutions to the World’s Biggest Problems”

offers often-funny, always-insightful solutions to what he claims are 22 of the most important issues people face. [Editor’s Note: Get Glenn Beck’s new book with our FREE Offer – Go Here Now.]

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax, Beck urges Americans to toughen up to speech they don’t like, arm themselves with the truth, and always remember that a country gets the government and the society it deserves.

Beck, host of one of the country’s most popular radio talk shows, also fires with both barrels on his fast-rising CNN Headline News TV show.

He tells Newsmax why is he challenging many liberal nostrums – such as global warming theories -- and reveals his aversion to being a modern-day doomsayer.

Newsmax: You have national radio show, a TV show on CNN Headline News, a successful web site and a travelling stage show. And yet you felt the need to write “An Inconvenient Book.” What had you been unable to say?

Beck: This book has a ton of facts, lots of charts and pictures, easy to remember. To me, this is the perfect little encyclopedia of everything that we talk about. Readers will have names, dates, places and facts. We really did our homework to make sure we hunted down everything, and made sure that it’s very, very meaty. I spent a lot of time with the artist trying to design this book, to make it accessible to people who don’t necessarily read conservative books

Newsmax: The chapters jump from global warming to marriage, porn and divorce; from tipping waiters to child molestation; from radical Islam to body image. How did you decide to write on these topics in this order?

Beck: We did say, “You need a little break from hearing how we’re all going to die from Muslim extremism.” On the topic selections, I’m riddled with ADD [Attention Deficit Disorder]. There is a hidden message there, like in The DaVinci Code.

Newsmax: Your new book identifies “the biggest threat America faces” as political correctness. Why?

Beck: I think political correctness is killing us on so many different fronts. We’re losing our sovereignty – global treaties. We’re losing our country and our culture through our borders. We are being attacked by those at the extreme edges of religion. By having to couch these things in politically correct terms, or to be able to cry, “racist, xenophobe, Muslim hater,” you can no longer say things that must be said. That’s what’s going to destroy us.

Newsmax: At age 43, with four children, are you seeing more to laugh about or more to cry about in the world?

Beck: I’m not becoming more serious with age. I’m becoming more serious with the age that we live in.

I had to spank one of my children for the very first time. He’s three, and he looked at me with different eyes. I saw fear in his eyes, and it tore me apart. I was awake all night. I cried in my wife’s arms all night.

What bothered me so much was, I believe our children are going to have to be fearful an awful lot. They have a future to truly fear. And it’s only coming because people are living in denial.

Newsmax: Your new book begins with a discussion of Al Gore and his global warming doomsaying. What is your radical solution to global warming?

Beck: Do nothing. We will do more harm than good. We have no idea what we’re messing with. The costs will cripple us. Just what we’re talking about to lower the temperature 2 degrees –if it works over the next 100 years – would cost between $2 trillion and $26 trillion. The poverty that this will cause will be staggering. And we don’t even know if it will work.

Newsmax: You write “politicians are only a reflection of us.” What do you mean?

Beck: You get what you deserve. We have drifted so far from what our founding fathers understood, from the understanding of God in this country.

The GOP sold out for power and politics. You must know who you are, what your core values are, and stay true to them. That’s the only way to survive in life. All of these people who are playing politics, one way or another will end up destroying themselves. I just hope they don’t destroy us first.

Newsmax: Politicians have opened the floodgates of illegal immigration. What are the lies you claim are turning North America into “MexAmeriCanada?”

Beck: The lies are, and the American people should have noticed, that when lawmakers couldn’t get the massive immigration bill through, they just broke it up. They know we’ll never take a big pill all at once. So they’ve broken it up and are putting it into law piecemeal.

Newsmax: If your choices are the Republican candidate or the Democratic candidate, which do you prefer?

Beck: I’m really torn on this. There is a choice. Unfortunately, for most of the candidates it’s the same choice, the same destination.

It amazes me how Hillary Clinton and the left – the extreme left, the communist left –hijacked the Democratic party, how they are just so open about being full-fledged socialists. They are not ashamed of it at all, and America better wake up. The Democrats, I think a lot of them are afraid of the left. They know the power they wield. The power is no longer in Washington. It certainly ain’t with “We the People.”

Newsmax: Glenn Beck fans will find little of some of your biggest recent themes: that atom-bomb making Iran is run by Apocalyptic Islamists and that we may be living in the Biblical end times. Are these the topics of your next book?

Beck: Quite honestly I don’t want to be that guy. I feel I have to be that guy because no one else will. I hope I’m wrong on all of those things. I really do. I wanted to put An Inconvenient Book together to highlight other problems and their simple solutions.

Newsmax: An Inconvenient Book is a do-it-yourself book describing how each of us can help restore and repair America. What are some simple steps we could take to remedy political correctness and media bias?

Beck: The biggest thing is “Be not afraid.” Arm yourself with the truth. Newsmax’s readers will read The Federalist Papers. But if I say to the average person, “Go read The Federalist Papers,” they’ll never do it. Be not afraid and speak out, because God help us if people don’t speak out.

Newsmax: On the cover of your new book you appear to be eating the state of California.

Beck: Am I eating California? Or is California being jammed down my throat? That’s for the reader to decide.

Newsmax: Liberals such as comic Al Franken have urged CNN Headline News to cancel your show. Has this chilled your freedom of speech and thought?

Beck: I do what I do. I believe in what I believe in. I still believe in America. I believe in free speech. I believe in fair play. When they fired Don Imus, and they started going after Rosie O’Donnell, I said: It doesn’t stop it. You must stop it. Freedom of speech and political correctness swing both ways. It just happens to be who’s in power and who can make the best case at the time.

You have to tolerate offensive speech all around you. More importantly though, you must be rooted in more than just “my rights.” You have to be rooted in “my responsibility.”

I love this quote from Immanuel Kant: “There are things that I believe that I will never say, but I shall never say the things that I do not believe.”

The day I can’t say what I believe is the day I check out.
