Glenn Beck Hits No. 1 on New York Times List

Thursday, 29 November 2007 03:01 PM EST

Radio and TV talk show host Glenn Beck’s new book has soared to the number one spot on the New York Times bestseller list — despite the fact it has been totally ignored by the mainstream press.

Beck’s “An Inconvenient Book: Real Solutions to the World’s Biggest Problems” (Simon & Schuster) will appear the Times’ list of Hardcover Nonfiction bestsellers that will appear on December 9. [Editor’s Note: You can get a free copy of this book – Click Here Now.]

The book is already the No. 1 best-seller among all books on Amazon.com.

Before Beck’s book hit the top of the Times’ list, Stephen Colbert’s “I Am America (And So Can You)” had been the leader in the Hardcover Nonfiction category for six weeks.

But unlike Beck, the liberal Colbert enjoyed considerable attention from the mainstream press. His book was reviewed by, or he was interviewed by, the Times, USA Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, Entertainment Weekly, “Good Morning America,” “Meet the Press,” and David Letterman.

While Newsmax did review Beck’s book, none of those other media have paid it any attention whatsoever.

In his book, Beck deftly dissects the surrealism and flawed thinking rampant in today’s culture. His astute analyses put the lie to comic Jon Stewart’s description of Beck as “a guy who says what people who don’t think, are thinking.”

Beck is one of the nation’s leading syndicated radio hosts, reaching some four million listeners. He is America’s third most popular radio talk show among listeners under age 54. His “Glenn Beck Show” has been rising in popularity on CNN’s Headline News.

“I believe that political correctness is the biggest threat this nation faces today,” writes Beck, who sees it as a “coordinated effort to change Western culture as we know it” by restricting the language of public debate on many topics.

Beck’s remedy for political correctness is “to take back the First Amendment” by again allowing “every opinion to be spoken, no matter how ugly or unpopular it may be. That’s the essence of free speech.”
