If you savor sweet and sour pork, you will feast on the meaty insights and tangy humor of this second tasty book by popular TV and radio talk host Glenn Beck.
The waif-like Everyman delivers wit and wisdom as he skewers the politically correct take on global warming, marriage, radical Islam, illegal immigration, parenting, and much more.
In the process his just released “An Inconvenient Book: Real Solutions to the World’s Biggest Problems” (Simon & Schuster) minces the left’s sacred cows into hamburger. [Editor’s Note: Get Glenn Beck’s new book with our FREE Offer – Go Here Now.]
Beck deftly dissects the surrealism and flawed thinking rampant in today’s culture. His treasure trove of astute analyses put the lie to comic Jon Stewart’s description of Beck as, “a guy who says what people who don’t think, are thinking.”
Beck, one of CNN’s few conservative voices and a frequent guest on ABC’s Good Morning America, reaches some four million listeners with America’s third most popular radio talk show among listeners under age 54.
Indeed, much of Beck’s appeal is evident on the book’s cover, where his face stares outward with large blue eyes and a gentle expression of innocent bewilderment.
He looks child-like, notwithstanding the bit of gray above the temples. From his lips dangles a map of California.
“I believe that political correctness is the biggest threat this nation faces today,” writes Beck, who sees it as a “coordinated effort to change Western culture as we know it” by restricting the language of public debate on many topics.
Talk hosts such as Don Imus, he writes, have become targets of a politically-motivated inquisition that has begun to chill freedom of speech for everyone.
Beck details efforts to remove him from the airwaves because of provocative things he has said, such as asking Democrat Keith Ellison, America’s first elected Muslim Congressman, to “prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.”
A former radio shock-jock DJ, recovered alcoholic and Mormon convert, Beck has long been willing to call evil by its name and to stand up for traditional American faith and family values.
His pained past brings empathy and open-mindedness, as well as a deep love of life and surreal sense of humor, to all he writes here.
Beck fans will be surprised, however, at how little his book deals with some of his most frequent broadcast themes, namely the threat of Islamist nuclear terrorism and why we may be living in the Bible’s prophesied end times.
Beck’s book does dish on more mundane problems and offers solutions. His remedy for political correctness is “to take back the First Amendment” by again allowing “every opinion to be spoken, no matter how ugly or unpopular it may be. That’s the essence of free speech.”
As the title suggests, Beck also remains skeptical about global warming. His “radical” solution, very different from former Vice President Al Gore’s, is “inaction.”
Beck and his researchers have done an excellent job gathering and organizing facts on this and many other topics, loading An Inconvenient Book with lots of ammunition conservative readers can use to persuade friends and foes alike.
For example, the drastic measures proposed to theoretically cool Earth’s climate by two degrees Celsius, writes Beck, could cost as much as $26.5 trillion, almost nine times the entire federal budget.
Given the enormous scientific uncertainties about how natural forces warm and cool our planet, he writes, we could bankrupt the world’s economies and inadvertently make the climate worse, not better, he adds.
The wise course today, writes Beck, is to do much more research into clean energy and alternative solutions to climate change.
In this and many other areas, writes Beck, we must never let ourselves be stampeded into surrendering our prosperity, faith and freedom to radical activists and politically correct politicians.
You should seriously consider this often-funny, always insightful book as a sanity-saving gift for friends – or for yourself.
