As the N.Y. Post took Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., to task for repeated "hypocrisy" of leaving her own significant carbon footprint, the Green New Deal-pedaling socialist responded via Twitter on Saturday night, she has no shame in "living in the world."
"I also fly ✈️ & use A/C," she tweeted in response to the Post's report of her campaign spending almost four times as much on "gas-guzzling" car rides despite a convenient subway station near her New York campaign office. "Living in the world as it is isn't an argument against working towards a better future.
"The Green New Deal is about putting a LOT of people to work in developing new technologies, building new infrastructure, and getting us to 100 percent renewable energy."
The Post's report that got to the Green New Deal activist chronicled excessive campaign spending on car rides when the subway could have been used to practice what she preaches.
"Since declaring her candidacy in May 2017, Ocasio-Cortez's campaign heavily relied on those combustible-engine cars — even though a subway station was just 138 feet from her Elmhurst campaign office.
"She listed 1,049 transactions for Uber, Lyft, Juno and other car services, federal filings show. The campaign had 505 Uber expenses alone.
"In all, Ocasio-Cortez spent $29,365.70 on those emissions-spewing vehicles, along with car and van rentals — even though her Queens HQ was a one-minute walk to the 7 train.
"The campaign shelled out only $8,335.41 on 52 MetroCard transactions."
In taking AOC to task, the Post points to the GND fact sheet that professes a vow to "totally overhaul transportation by massively expanding electric vehicle manufacturing, build charging stations everywhere, build out high-speed rail . . . create affordable public transit available to all, with goal to replace every combustion-engine vehicle."
This is for all except her and her staff, the Post reported, while also noting a social media video showed AOC not recycling the plastic bags she was railing on, apparently disposing of them in the same trash receptacle as a sweet potato peel which could have been composted.
Also included in the Post's report were details of 66 flights taken by AOC and her staff, compared to just 18 receipts Amtrak.
