Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee are preparing to subpoena the Justice Department for memos drafted by former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe regarding his conversations with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Roll Call reports.

"I had my consultation with the Democrats so that we can issue the subpoena now in two days," House Judiciary Chairman Robert Goodlatte told reporters Tuesday.

Goodlatte's comments followed The New York Times report that said Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein suggested wearing a wire during conversations with President Donald Trump last year. Rosenstein also reportedly proposed recruiting Cabinet members to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.

McCabe reportedly laid out claims Rosenstein proposed recording Trump.

Rosenstein has denied ever saying such things, but the controversy has caused chaos in the White House and Trump is said to be considering firing him. Trump and Rosenstein are now set to meet Thursday when the president returns from the UN General Assembly.
