"Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek revealed Wednesday he has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

In a video, Trebek said he found out about his condition this week, and said he was publicly announcing it to be "open and transparent" with fans of the popular game show.

"Now normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I'm going to fight this, and I'm going to keep working," he said.

"And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rate statistics for this disease."

Trebek vowed he will continue with his hosting duties on the popular game show.

"Truth told, I have to! Because under the terms of my contract, I have to host 'Jeopardy!' for three more years!" he said. "So, help me, keep the faith, and we'll win. We'll get it done. Thank you."

Fellow game show host Pat Sajack tweeted support for Trebek:

"The Sajak family is deeply saddened to hear of Alex Trebek's struggle with cancer. Our hearts go out to him and his family. But there is no one I know who is stronger and more determined, and I would never bet against him. We, and the entire country, are pulling for you, Alex."

Trebek has served as host since its debut in daytime syndication in 1984. With nearly 8,000 episodes under his belt, he holds the Guinness World Record for Most Game Show Episodes Hosted by the Same Presenter, New York ABC affiliate ABC7 reported.

"Jeopardy," seen by an estimated 24 million viewers each week, has been renewed through the 2022-2023 season with Trebek under contract through the 2021-2022 season.
