Alex Jones to Newsmax TV: Facebook Playing 'Dumb'

Friday, 03 May 2019 08:38 PM EDT

InfoWars host Alex Jones blasted Facebook a day after the social media platform banned him, saying his accusers edited his comments to make him appear anti-Semitic.

Appearing on Newsmax TV's "Newsmax Now," Jones told host John Bachman, "Everybody knows I've been pro-Israel for 25 years on air."

Jones also noted that his critics in the mainstream media have tried to make it appear he has been completely banned from social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, when it was actually only his major channels. His smaller channels have continued to operate, he said, because they've been unable to find anything on them with which to bring an accusation.

The initial bans did hurt, he said, "because those were millions of people a day opening up those podcasts. … Under massive lobbying by the left and Media Matters they took them down, and now they put a press release out … where they said anyone saying anything nice about me or Infowars.com, [if] they don't explicitly condemn me, they will be banned."

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act says that internet providers are not treated as publishers and therefore not held accountable for information put on the platform by a content provider. Jones agreed that the law protects platforms such as Facebook from legal liability from anything users post on them, and said he should therefore be allowed to continue on the site.

He blasted Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg who said in a 2018 Senate hearing he was unfamiliar with the wording of Section 230.

"If anybody believes Zuckerberg doesn't know Section 230 and the entire foundation of the Telecommucations Act since 1996 and 2000, that's like saying somebody can't find their a** with both hands," Jones said. "Their whole system of liability protection of any website that has comments or anything. Or if you have an email service if somebody sends child porn you're protected under 230 because you didn't know. That's like him saying he doesn't know what the sun is or birds are in the sky. So again, they play dumb to Congress over and over again."
