Dershowitz: Rep. Omar's Anti-Israel Stance Very Anti-American

By    |   Monday, 04 March 2019 11:04 AM EST

Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz slammed freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar as being not only anti-Israel, but as being "very anti-American" as well after a series of tweets she posted to House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey, D-NY, who had said she was "saddened" by Omar's stance.

"Put aside the anti-Israel, she is so anti-American," Dershowitz told Fox News "Fox and Friends" about the Minnesota Democrat, a Muslim-American.  "She accuses American members of Congress, men and women, Jewish, Christian, she accuses them of doing it for the money."

Americans support Israel because it is a democracy and also is the United States' strongest ally in the Middle East, said Dershowitz.

"No matter who is elected in Israel, they are going to be very supportive of America, exchanging intelligence information, military information, and her attack on supporters of Israel is an attack on America," he added.

Omar, after coming under fire for tweeting last month that some lawmakers support Israel because of financial reasons, on Sunday said on Twitter that she should not be expected to support a foreign country in order to be in Congress or on committees, and claimed that she is not alone with her opinions.

Lowey objected, prompting the string of tweets back at her from Omar.

"She accuses them of dual loyalty," Dershowitz said of Omar. "She supports Hamas. She supports other terrorist groups that are anti-American. If supporters of Israel are guilty of dual loyalty, which they are not, what about supporters of America's enemies?"
