The U.S. Air Force dropped a record level of bombs in March targeting ISIS – notching the most since the campaign began in 2014, Military.com reported.

According to USAF Central Command statistics, nearly 4,000 munitions were dropped during March.

That tally compares with November 2015, when the Air Force dropped 3,000 bombs in November and again in December following the Paris terrorist attacks that killed more than 100 people, the figures showed.

Bombings held steady at around 2,500 a month in early 2016. In June, however, 3,160 weapons dropped over Iraq and Syria, the figures showed.

Military.com reported strikes last summer were focused on Fallujah and Mosul in Iraq, and Raqqa in Syria, hitting an all-time high for the service.

Military.com noted the U.S-led coalition conducting airstrikes has focused on backing Iraqi ground forces as they fight to liberate western Mosul from ISIS. The militants now only control a small stronghold in the city limits.

The United States has spent more than $12.5 billion on the campaign, Military.com reported.
