Semantics Won't Grant Status to Calif. Illegals

Semantics Won't Grant Status to Calif. Illegals

As of January 1st “aliens” will finally be illegal in California. Now don’t get me wrong, technically “illegals” will still be aliens. It’s just the word “alien” and not the people that will undergo a status change.

The law–breaking border crossers remain subject to no known penalties under California law, but eligible for plenty of benefits. While the hammer comes down on the word, which will be illegal and banned.

Confused yet?

This latest exercise in absurdity is brought to you by State Sen. Tony Mendoza, D-Artesia. Breitbart News reports Mendoza’s SB 432 removes the term “alien” from the state’s labor laws. Previous definition: “Any person who is not born in or a fully naturalized citizen of the United States.”

Current definition: Down the memory hole.

Even more important to California residents and citizens, Mendoza’s law will remove the state’s preference for hiring U.S. citizens on public works projects during periods of unemployment,” according to Breitbart.

This is a stunning betrayal by Mendoza of the law–abiding, citizen residents of his district in favor of an ethic minority he favors that has no right to take jobs funded by California taxpayers.

His excuse for the word purging is the go–to justification for the left: “Alien is now commonly considered a derogatory term for a foreign–born person and has very negative connotations. It has no place in our laws and should not be the basis of employment hiring."

This proves historian Paul Johnson correct again. At the hands of the Left the term “racist” has lost all its original meaning and the term is now simply an all–purpose pejorative for anything the left dislikes that involves people.

Mendoza has no excuse for removing the provision that gave California citizens hiring priority over those who break the law to break into the hiring line.

The only ray of reason came from Assemblyman Matthew Harper, R–Huntington Beach, who protested to the San Francisco Chronicle the bill was “just a way for legislators to get their names in the paper.  . . . [t]he negative connotations come from the fact that people are breaking the law. Changing the word won’t change the fact that folks are here illegally.”

The bill passed unanimously in the senate and with only one “no” vote (Harper’s) in the assembly. That alone says a lot about the caliber of intellect in the California legislature and is an equally telling commentary on the voters who elected them.
