Govt Bloat Exposed in 'Plunder and Deceit'

Conservative radio host and author Mark Levin wants to recruit a few young men and women to change the course of our nation. The National Review Online reviews his new book “Plunder and Deceit” and describes it as a volume designed to motivate a generation that’s been gulled and cheated by its elders.

In the Review’s words, “It presents the hard evidence that the federal government and its ever-expanding administrative state, under the control of both major political parties through the better part of the last century, have increasingly stolen future prosperity to provide current comfort.”

Current social spending for welfare, subsidies, senior citizens, disability, and the titanic bureaucratic machine that administers it is crowding out funding that pays for items that should be the first priority of the republic. “[Levin] then presents the obvious consequences: We will not have the resources to provide for the national security that is a must if there is to be commerce, and our straits will become more dire when, inevitably, interest rates creep toward historic norms.”

Recently, even former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan has warned that social spending has grown so large it may capsize the ship of state. But the most pernicious policy of the big government elite is its focus on “education.”

Cradle thru college indoctrination has produced a younger generation that “vigorously support[s] the very policies that are bringing them to ruin, surrendering their fate to the increasingly autocratic government they claim to distrust.”

Contrary to what the Obama administration, the entire Democratic Party, and the National Education Association tell us (I realize there is considerable overlap between the three) the U.S. does not spend too little on education.

We currently spend more per pupil than every other first world nation, yet we are demonstrably not getting much for our money.

The reason? The money doesn’t go toward education; it’s goes toward educators. “The universities now employ over 400 percent more people than the 850,000 who worked on campuses a half-century ago, but well over half of them (2.3 million) are administrators and support personnel, not teachers.”

The government–education complex is simply an enormous job creation program for the left. So with that kind of opposition to a return to conservative principles, how does Levin hope to succeed?

Conservative ideological shock troops. According to The National Review, Levin doesn’t expect to convince every young person to take action. He wants to “persuade a critical mass — not just to the point of conviction but to activism.”

Let’s hope he succeeds where others have failed. You can help by giving a copy of the book to the nearest young person you know who’s not averse to facts.
