California voters have spoken, I’m just not sure what they said.
As near as I can tell voters were propositioned by porn reformers and they turned the offer down. In fact, it looks like all the supporters of Measure 60 accomplished was to get porn “actors and actresses” to cover up, if only briefly.
This cover-up happened during a parade to protest passage of Measure 60 and stiffen opposition to the referendum proposal. Briefly the measure would have required porn performers to wear a condom during sex scenes (are there any other?) and make producers and porn distributors liable for violations of the law. Trial lawyers — essentially one of the branches of California government — loved the liability part because it meant the potential for lawsuits.
The porn community didn’t because evidently they are also heavily in to do–it–yourself as it applies to making their own “art.” Complete details on the measure are in an earlier column here.
As near as I can tell the only charge anti-proposition activists didn’t levy was that of sexism for making only men wear the condom.
As this is written, support for the measure has drooped to 47 percent and it looks like the antis will have their way with 53 percent of the vote.
So a referendum that some might categorize as a leftist “nanny state” law was beaten, but another issue that is part of the left’s ideological spectrum passed.
In San Francisco Proposition N was ratified with almost 53 percent of the vote. This proposition cheapens the right to vote by extending it to law-breaking illegal aliens who are parents, legal guardians or nannies of a child that attends San Francisco schools.
What’s more, this gives illegals a better deal than citizens. (Come to think of it, nothing new there.) They will not only be able to vote in school board elections, but evidently they won’t be required to perform jury duty if their name loses the lottery.

And to completely confuse election watchers, a San Francisco initiative that made sense looks like it will pass. This was Proposition Q. The measure would allow city workers to dismantle the tent cities erected by derelicts and the homeless that do so much to make walking on San Francisco sidewalks resemble a tour through a sewage treatment plant.
Of course it also requires giving 24-hour notice, but that’s only a small inconvenience.
Even better, the measure lets the city offer urban campers a ticket out of town! No word on how many times recipients could claim a ticket or how far taxpayers must pay to send them.
This measure also has about 53 percent of the vote.
In summary, it’s a little like the singer Meat Loaf once said, “Two out of three, ain’t bad.”
