Obama Appeases Iran, Taunts Russia

There is a stark, undeniable, and inexplicable inconsistency in President Obama’s foreign policy toward Iran, on the one hand, and Putin’s Russia on the other hand.

Toward Iran, Obama has implemented a policy of total virtual appeasement that will lead to Iran’s acquisition of a nuclear arsenal, and a contiguous geographical Iranian Shiite Imamate stretching from Iran through Iraq and Syria to the Mediterranean Sea.

However, toward Putin and Russia, even before Crimea, Obama has not only taunted Putin as a “bored schoolboy,” but also appears to have escalated and instigated conflict against Russia at every turn.

Where are Obama’s escalations with the nuclear-armed Putin heading? Why is Obama appeasing Iran into its building a nuclear arsenal, and escalating with Putin to instigate a nuclear war in which both United States and Russia will destroy each other? Is Obama a schizophrenic? Or maybe, with Russia, Obama isn’t looking for an American victory.

First, let’s look at and compare the various “proxy” wars Iran and Russia are waging in their immediate neighborhoods.

Iran has murdered hundreds of thousands of Sunnis through its proxies of Assad of Syria, Hezbollah of Lebanon, al-Maliki of Iraq, Hamas of Gaza, and the Houthis of Yemen. Iran has sent thousands of Iranian militiamen, and even Iranian Revolutionary Guards into these non-Persian countries where they have led and directly killed thousands more.

Iran has even enabled Assad to use sarin Gas and chlorine gas against Syrian civilians and Syrian rebels. To Obama, this isn’t the slightest problem. Iran can genocidally murder hundreds of thousands of Sunnis and start all manner of wars against American allies, and Obama stands on his head to drop sanctions against Iran.

But, if Russia starts a proxy war in, and moves troops into, an immediately neighboring country of Crimea and Eastern Ukraine where there are ethnic Russians, historical ties, and other strategic vital Russian interests, Obama goes ballistic and erects a phalanx of putative sanctions against Putin. Even worse, there have been almost no massive casualties in the Ukraine as there have been in Iraq, and Syria, but Obama still acts like Putin is a Hitler invading Poland.

Obama even originally set the Ukraine in flames to begin with by pushing the Ukraine to endorse the economic legislation with Europe. In February 2014, Obama’s Ukraine Ambassador Victoria Nuland was caught red-handed on a cellphone call taking an extreme escalatory position against Russia by pushing the most extreme Ukrainian anti-Russian positions.

What she, and hence Obama, was saying at the time was that the EU wanted a conciliatory position with Russia. But, Obama didn’t want a conciliatory Ukrainian pro-Russian position. Why is Obama hysterically escalating with Putin, who has thousands of nuclear missiles that can annihilate the United States over a country in his backyard, while simultaneously ignoring Iran nuke program, Iran’s massacres of Sunnis, and Khamenei’s multiple calls to annihilate Israel? If anything, Obama should ensure Iran never gets a nuclear weapon and perhaps cut Putin a little slack.

The answer may lay in Obama’s desire to “level” the United States to the rest of the world “by any means necessary.” In the 2002 movie “The Sum of All Fears” by Tom Clancy, “Richard Dressler,” the evil neo-Nazi protagonist, hatched a plan of raising his nationalistic power up by instigating a thermonuclear war between the United States and Russia.

Dressler’s classic line was, “One more thing: let no man call us crazy. They called Hitler crazy, but Hitler wasn't crazy. He was stupid. You don't fight Russia and America. You get Russia and America to fight each other, and destroy each other.”

Could Ron Paul actually be right for once? In early December 2014, Ron Paul said that the "U.S. provoking war with Russia, and could result in total destruction." Even a broken military-time clock is right once a day? Is the Ukraine actually worth America starting a thermonuclear war over? What’s America's supreme strategic interest in installing the Ukraine into NATO?

But more importantly, why is Obama the total nuclear appeaser when it comes to the Islamo-fascist Iran, and suddenly Obama becomes the total warmonger when it comes to Putin and Russia? If Obama can do no right anywhere, then even where the Republicans agree with him in the Ukraine, Obama may still be doing something very, very wrong.

While no one is saying Putin deserves a “gold star” for his table manners, it’s time we stop, look, and listen before we slip into something we can’t stop. In November 2014, 91-year-old former diplomat U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger warned of a possible new Cold War and called the West’s (i.e., Obama’s) approach to the crisis a “fatal mistake.”

Mr. Kissinger characterized the tense relations as exhibiting the danger of “another Cold War.” Let’s pray it’s just “another cold war,” and doesn’t, under Obama’s “leadership,” become a hot nuclear war.
