Attempt to Thwart Trump Subverts Rule of Law

Bottoming out outrageous lawfare assaults on Donald Trump and U.S. justice — at least so far — former Attorney General William Barr described the latest trial case in New York charging the former president of paying hush money to cover up an alleged affair with an adult film actress two decades ago as “obviously political” and an “abomination.”

The trial, which began today, includes 34 felony charges of falsifying business records in connection with a $130,00 payment made through his then-attorney Michael Cohen a month prior to the 2016 election to conceal release of politically damaging exposure of a 2006 sexual encounter with stage-named performer “Stormy Daniels.”

Trump has denied any legal wrongdoing as well as having engaged in the alleged sexual scandal. Cohen, the prosecution’s key witness against the former president, was convicted of campaign finance violations and bank fraud in 2018 and sentenced to three years in prison.  

Barr, clearly not a Trump fan following public disagreement regarding fairness of that 2016 presidential election, believes that bringing up the case seven years after the claimed payment and doing so in the height of the 2024 election season “[is] not only far-fetched… they're trying to predicate it on a federal crime which wasn't prosecuted."

Barr told Fox News, “The real threat to liberty, the real threat to our system, are the excesses of the progressive left. They are perverting the system of justice and that’s where the danger lies. The subversion of our institutions by the left.”

He added: “I think the real danger to the country, the real danger to democracy, as I say, is the progressive agenda and I’ve said Trump may be playing Russian roulette, but continuation of the Biden administration is national suicide in my opinion.”

There is little in the appearance of this case to warrant any legitimate pretense of impartial justice.

New York Judge Juan Merchan refused to recuse himself from the case after Trump’s legal team argued that his daughter, Loren Merchan, is an executive at Authentic Campaigns, Inc., an agency that runs digital programs for Democratic candidates, which presents an “actual conflict and an unacceptable appearance of impropriety.”

Trump’s legal team also unsuccessfully called for the case to be moved from Manhattan — where a vast majority of the jury pool citizens votes Democrat — to Staten Island, the only New York City borough that voted for Trump in both elections.

After waiting seven years to prosecute Trump, the salacious show trial appears suspiciously scheduled to keep the Democrat’s leading opponent in court throughout much of the crucial campaign season.

Judge Merchan is insisting that the former (and possible future) free world leader sit in his Manhattan courtroom throughout an uncertain trial period which may last weeks or even months under penalty of criminal arrest for missed appearances.

This likely requires Trump to limit campaign rallies to weekends when the court isn’t in session, while legacy media attention remains fixated on courtroom theater staged to destroy his candidacy.

Whereas it is unknown whether Merchan will allow Trump a requested day off to attend his son Barron’s May high school graduation, he has denied him permission to travel to Washington, D.C., during Supreme Court arguments regarding whether “presidential immunity” should exempt him from prosecution in a separate federal case.

The Trump lawfare assaults began in full fury with two failed impeachment trials: one for simply asking a new Ukraine president about former Vice President Joe Biden’s threat to withhold a billion dollars in aid unless the country fired the prosecutor of a corrupt energy company that was paying son Hunter a million-dollar salary as a no-show board member.

The other impeachment was a kangaroo court disgrace charging Trump with "incitement of insurrection" involving January 6 Capital riots that allowed no cross examination of witnesses and entirely omitted his statement: "I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard."

The U.S. Supreme Court unanimously struck down an attempt by the Colorado Supreme Court to keep Trump off the state’s ’24 ballots under a Civil War-era insurrection clause, whereas neither he nor any of those arrested for Capital disturbances have been charged with insurrection.

Special Counsel Jack Smith is prosecuting a federal case in Florida alleging that former President Trump unlawfully kept concealed sensitive government documents after leaving office which he arguably had full authority to do under the Presidential Records Act.

Smith’s charges fly in the face of conclusions of an investigation by Special Counsel Robert Hur confirming that current President Joe Biden illegally held secret documents dating back to 2017, with some of this information shared with a ghostwriter for his memoir.

Unlike Donald Trump, Joe Biden isn’t being charged for any crimes here, the remarkable reasoning essentially being that he is too forgetfully feeble-minded to be held accountable in court, but apparently not so much to impair judgment for presidential reelection.

Such blatant applications of lawfare for election interference to keep former President Trump in court trials and off campaign trails make a tragic mockery of Democrat claims of concerns about a supposed threat his election poses to “democracy.”

Meanwhile, as they attempt to eliminate their leading opposition through all undemocratic means possible, constitutional rules of law have become subverted to a banana republic law of the jungle.
