Close Door on Foreign Campaign Money, Open It to Reform

Close Door on Foreign Campaign Money, Open It to Reform

ActBlue is the one vendor who continues to add to the billions of dollars sent to candidates through unverified gift or credit card contributions, an open invitation for foreign interests to subvert U.S. laws.

Now it turns out they are also sending questionable contributions that break campaign limits from liberal activist Rosie O’Donnell.

Once Take Back Our Republic Advisory Committee Member Peter Schweizer pointed out foreign interests could easily subvert U.S. Campaign laws by funneling political attack money through unverified campaign contributions, hundreds of candidates voluntarily stopped using the process — but ActBlue continued using a process that has now put $1.7 billion into political efforts.

Now we know that even if we successfully pass HR1341 and/or S1660 to stop this process, ActBlue is processing other illegal money.

We knew Rosie O’Donnell did not get along with Donald Trump.

What we didn’t know, however, was that she was willing to act unfairly to support his opponents.

Reports show that the leftist comedian gave in excess of federal rules to at least five candidates — including recent Democratic victors Sen. Doug Jones, D-Ala., and Rep. Conor Lamb, D-Pa.

Jones received $2,000 beyond legal limits. Lamb received $900 more.

In total, O’Donnell gave $5,400 over the limits to her supported candidates. While she claims that she did not intend to break the rules, she purportedly used five different variations of her name and 4 different addresses to make those donations — which certainly appears to raise doubt about purity of intent.

The full article can be found here.

The fact that O’Donnell used the liberal online platform from ActBlue to make these illegal contributions further calls into question that the illegal contributions were accidental mistakes.

Liberals cannot say they want reform on important issues like campaign finance abuses and over the top gerrymandering, and then condone Act Blue and the ACLU (see last week’s post) attempting to thwart any such effort unless it hurts Republicans and helps Democrats.

Luckily, some left of center groups in Ohio have joined the effort to stop gerrymandering on Tuesday’s vote and some U.S. senators I rarely agree on other issues (Klobuchar, D-Minn., Warner, D-Va., and Feinstein, D-Calif.) have signed onto require ActBlue and everyone else to let banks verify billions of dollars coming into American politics with no fingerprints.

Hopefully Ohio voters deliver a big win on campaign finance reform with a Yes vote on Issue One Tuesday and we close the door to foreign money coming through unverified credit card contributions this year.

Our conservative solutions include: stopping illicit foreign money from impacting elections; ending pay-to-play in government contracting; and restoring the Reagan-era federal tax credit for small-dollar political contributions, which will encourage more citizens to become donors and help re-balance the campaign finance system.
