Left Wants You to Believe Americans' Views on Roe That Aren't There

Support for abortion has dropped significantly in recent years.

Now, the left is in hysterics over the leak of a reported draft ruling in the case of Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization which shows the U.S. Supreme Court is poised to vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973), the landmark 1973 case establishing a constitutional right for a woman to have an abortion.

The ruling, as it's drafted, is also expected to overturn Planned Parenthood v. Casey, 505 U.S. 833 (1992), a case which upheld Roe.

Majority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., was  reportedly readying an attempt to circumvent the high court’s anticipated ruling, by putting legislation on the matter up for a vote.

Other liberals (from coast to coast) have also wieghed in: Gov. Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., to Gov. Phil Murphy, D-N.J., as well as Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif.

They have each vowed to fight.

The Washington Post reported that Mini Timmaraju, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, promises that "strategies and plans" are underway to attempt to pre-empt such a ruling.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s Kelley Robinson called the likely ruling "an untenable situation" that called for marches and protests.

Yet, despite the loud opposition to the anticipated ruling what might surprise some Americans is that the Supreme Court’s view actually reflects Americans’ current views on abortion — now more than ever.

A slew of polls taken last summer — when the Mississippi case first headed to the high court — show that Americans no longer believe in the concept of on-demand abortion at every doctor’s office on every corner.

Far from it.

An Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Poll shows that a majority of Americans believe that abortion should only be legal in "some circumstances."

A stunning 65% of Americans believe abortion should only be legal during the first trimester.

According to the AP-NORC poll, an even more surprising 80% of Americans now believe abortion should not be legal during the third trimester.

A Gallup Poll taken around the same time period shows that nearly half (48%) of Americans believe that abortions should only be legal during certain circumstances.

In fact Gallup asked a question with three choices: "Do you think abortions should be legal under any circumstances, legal under only certain circumstances, or illegal in all circumstances?" Respondents replied that abortions should be "illegal in all circumstances" ranked nearly as closely to those who said "legal under any circumstances," which shows the abortion lobby is anything but winning the war of public opinion.

Furthermore, the category of respondents who answered that abortions should be "legal under only certain circumstances" beat the group that suggested abortions should be "legal under any circumstances" by a stunning 16-point-margin.

Moreover, when added together, over two-thirds of Americans (67%) responded to the Gallup Poll that abortion should be "illegal in all circumstances" and "legal under only certain circumstances."

That is a bad day at the office for Planned Parenthood.

Even worse for abortion activists, when Gallup asked Americans if they would describe themselves "as pro-choice or pro-life" respondents were fairly evenly split at 49-47%, respectively.

When it comes to morality, respondents were also split.

In a more recent Gallup Poll just 47% of Americans believe in 2022 that abortion is "morally acceptable," while 46% believe it is "morally wrong."

Compare that to May of 2015, when 50% of Americans stated they would call themselves "anti-abortion" and to September of 1995 when 56% of Americans were proud to do so.

That is a double-digit plummet in public opinion.

Voter intensity on the issue has also been dwindling over the last decade.

While the pink-hat-wearing, hard-left feminists would have you believe that abortion is the number one issue facing Americans and women especially, just half (50%) of voters in the 2020 elections said it was the top issue. Half of voters stated that abortion was just "one of many important factors" they would consider in choosing a candidate.

However, the trouble for Planned Parenthood doesn’t stop there.

Gallup’s polling in 2022 got to the heart of the issue — the law of the land — which 41% of Americans stated they were "dissatisfied" with, referring to "the nation’s policies regarding abortion."

Twenty-two percent stated they were "dissatisfied, want stricter" laws when it comes to abortion, and 24% of Americans were "satisfied" with the nation’s current limitations on abortion including the national partial-birth abortion ban, which prohibits killing a baby as it’s being born or as a woman is dilated.

America’s increasingly negative viewpoint on abortion and the desire for stricter laws is a far cry from what Planned Parenthood and the abortion establishment would have you believe.

For nearly 50 years radical, far-left feminists sold a bill of goods to an entire generation of women, from the 1960s into the 2000s, that abortion was a necessary evil to uphold "women’s rights," sadly, with little regard to the rights of the little human forming inside of them.

Perhaps the most stunning statistic is that 40% of Americans support a law in which abortions would be outlawed after a baby’s heartbeat can be heard — placing nearly half of Americans in the camp of conservative republicans, southern states and Bible Belt states who have passed "heartbeat bills."

This, my friends, places hundreds of millions of Americans squarely on the side of the majority rule of the Supreme Court which, according to the leaked draft ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, appears to be poised to change the nation’s policies on this very topic.

The next time the radical left attempts to shame the Supreme Court (which is surely what the leak aims to do) and to suggest that the high court is out of touch with Americans, remember these figures.

The direct opposite is true.

It has been acknowledged throughout the years that the Supreme Court is merely a reflection of the people it serves. The court’s only constitutional requirement is that the justices must be appointed by the president, voted on by the Senate Judiciary Committee, and voted on by the broader Senate.

Otherwise, the court has long been influenced by public opinion and has reflected the values of the current society. Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization is no different. In the matter of on-demand abortion across the land, the high court is perfectly on track in fulfilling its duties to America.
