When members of the far-left in Hollywood are using the same script as the editors of National Review, we know that we are living in very surreal times.

“Stop Hate, Dump Trump” is a new slogan that has been adopted by a group of Hollywood liberals in the hopes of derailing Donald Trump’s campaign bullet train.

In an almost simultaneous effort, National Review has devoted almost every page of the most recent issue of its magazine to essays that urge voters to withhold support from the GOP front runner, something that most likely would have appalled conservative icon and magazine founder William F. Buckley Jr.

Hollywood’s assault on Trump emanates from decidedly left-wing individuals, most of whom work in the entertainment business.

Two things were essential in these digital times for the left-tilting activists to move forward with their political scheme: They had to devise a suitable catchphrase for the creation of a social media hashtag; and they had to enlist the help of some willing celebrities to promote the hashtag.

Both agenda items are now implemented.

Many members of the group, a sizable number of which are celebrities, would not exactly be considered A-listers. Still, they have attached their signatures and endorsed the online petition connected with a trite hashtag.

According to the group's website, the petition seeks to “call out Donald Trump for his hatred, misogyny, Islamaphobia, and racism.  . . . ”

Several of those who have signed are familiar names from the Hollywood left’s past. Countless times over the years the public has had to endure the antics of Michael Moore, Jane Fonda, Danny Glover, Harry Belafonte, Roseanne Barr, and longtime Trump-provoker Rosie O’Donnell, who among others have lent their names to the online initiative.

Connie Britton, Rosanna Arquette, Dylan McDermott, and Lily Tomlin have signed the petition, too, as has the only celebrity that younger people are likely to recognize, television actress Kerry Washington.

The content of the group’s attack is typical of organizations that spring from the extreme radical left; content that tends to skirt substantive discussion and employ labels that manipulate perceptions through use of loaded language such as “hatred” and “bigotry.”

Moore, Fonda, and Glover are pillars of Hollywood's political fringe, who have heaped praise on despots, defamed Christians, and denigrated America.

Their credibility is therefore questionable and their influence dubious as a result.

One individual who is not an actor but who has also signed the petition is Noam Chomsky, a very familiar face on the leftist spectrum. Outrageously, in the past Chomsky pointed a finger of blame at the United States for the Sept. 11 attacks and labeled America a “leading terrorist state.”

Hollywood’s anti-Trump movement has three co-founders with clear left-wing bona fides: Kimberle Crenshaw, part of the anti-Justice Clarence Thomas legal team, Eve Ensler, author of “The Vagina Monologues,” and Jodie Evans, co-founder of “Code Pink” and an individual who also served in California Governor Jerry Brown’s cabinet.

Those who are involved with the petition and who are expressing dissatisfaction with Trump seem to be having great difficulty understanding how the GOP frontrunner’s poll numbers have remained so high.

They additionally appear to be unable to come to terms with the fact that a sizable number of Democrats and minorities are engaged in the GOP primary process because of Trump's candidacy, something that the establishment has long-claimed is one of the Republican Party's goals.

The group also does not seem to realize the depth and scope of Trump’s long established brand, having garnered tremendous celebrity status that rivals many members of the group’s own. Additionally, Trump’s celebrity image is one of strength, confidence, and leadership, among other traits.

To add to his leadership aura, since he announced his candidacy, he has spoken about issues such as immigration, global trade, and national security, and he has done so in a clear, direct manner that base voters respect and admire but from which other candidates have shied away.

However, the thing that perhaps scares the institutional left the most is that, like Ronald Reagan, Trump has the unique ability to bypass the media and the Washington political infrastructure, communicating instead directly with the people.

Ironically, attacks from left-winged celebrities will likely help Trump, rather than hurt him, particularly with the all-important base voters in Iowa and New Hampshire.

In the intense anti-establishment climate of the primaries, verbal assaults by Moore, Fonda, Glover, and others may serve to push Trump’s numbers even higher.
