1. Paris Hilton’s Blonde Spot

Heiress, actress, and recording artist Paris Hilton recently suggested that she’s a walking testament that blondes are bright.

Hilton claimed that her “Simple Life” reality show character was just a role and that in the real world she’s an astute career girl.

“I’m very intelligent. I’m capable of doing everything put to me. I’ve two records, I’ve launched a perfume, and I want my own hotel chain,” Hilton told The U.K. Sun.

“I’m the living proof that blondes are not stupid,” she declared.

Paris also shared the tidbit that guys don’t just date her for her looks or wealth but are actually fascinated with her personality.

2. Elton John Loses Defamation Lawsuit

It happened in a British court.

Elton John lost a case that had put free expression and journalism in the spotlight.

Justice Tugendhat’s precedent-setting U.K. ruling concluded that “irony” and “teasing” are not sufficiently defamatory for a lawsuit.

The rocker must pay the defendant’s costs, which in this case are those of the U.K. Guardian. He was also denied permission to appeal.

The decision should provide comfort for British writers of parody, satire, and humor.

John brought the lawsuit after an article titled “A peek at the diary of Sir Elton John” was published in the Guardian Weekend magazine. The piece purported to quote John’s diary “entries” about his annual White Tie and Tiara Ball, which, incidentally, raises millions for the Elton John Aids Foundation.

“Naturally, everyone could afford just to hand over the money if they gave that much of a toss about Aids research — as could the sponsors,” the faux entry read, “but we like to give guests a preposterously lavish evening because they're the kind of people who wouldn't turn up for anything less.”

John was miffed and claimed the article made him look insincere about his own charity and made it appear as though he uses the event “as an occasion for meeting celebrities and/or self-promotion.”

The Guardian’s lawyers took the position that no reasonable reader would have believed the words were meant to be taken seriously.

The judge referred to “irony” as “a figure of speech in which the intended meaning is the opposite of that expressed by the words used.”

“The attribution is literally false but no reasonable reader could be misled by it,” the judge wrote.

Unreliable sources indicate that the judge was not in any way swayed by the plaintiff’s lawyer’s bejeweled eyeshades and feather boa.

3. T.R. Knight Wants Out of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?

Sources have confirmed that T.R. Knight, who plays Dr. George O'Malley on “Grey's Anatomy,” has asked to be released from his contract.

He reportedly wants off the show because he’s dissatisfied with the direction his character is taking in the storyline.

Knight’s contract runs for another three years, but he wants to scram so he can supposedly do feature films.

Rumors have been circulating that Knight has been difficult during rehearsals and may even have stormed off the set.

A while back Knight claimed to be the victim of then-fellow cast member Isaiah Washington’s purported insensitive remarks about Knight’s sexual preferences. Washington lost his job over the controversy.

Interestingly, while Knight is reportedly itching to leave “Grey’s” because of the scripts, another cast member, Patrick Dempsey, has decided to launch a new fragrance for men called “Unscripted.”

4. Roman Polanski’s Pathetic Plea

Over three decades ago, a famous film director was arrested for having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

According to grand jury testimony, the then-43-year-old Roman Polanski forced the junior high school aged Samantha Geimer to have sexual relations with him after supplying her with alcohol and prescription drugs.

The tragic incident occurred after Polanski had the young girl pose twice for topless photos that he falsely claimed were for the French Vogue magazine.

Polanski carried out the despicable acts in the Mulholland Canyon home of Jack Nicholson, who was not home at the time.

After being indicted, he agreed to a plea bargain with no prison time. He then fled the country because of fear that the judge wouldn’t honor the deal.

Now Polanski has filed in Los Angeles to have his own plea deal overturned.

Hollywood has forgiven him, so much so the town awarded him with an Oscar.

The victim purportedly now wants the charges dropped, and a documentary that pleads Polanski’s case has been created. However, none of these things changes the brutality of his March 1977 crime.

Polanski pleaded guilty for the crime in open court, and he intentionally became a fugitive from the criminal justice system.

France should be ashamed for failing to extradite the convicted felon.

5. Rahm Emanuel Missing in Action

The president-elect's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, failed to show up as expected at the Chicago presidential transition offices.

Reporters, who had wanted to ask questions about contacts with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, immediately set out on a search for him but to no avail.

According to an unsubstantiated report, a MSBBC News cameraman was in the Green Room and saw Emanuel double dipping the meatballs into the sweet-and-sour sauce. After a few rounds, he thought the congressman looked a bit pekid.

He even imagined that he heard the Obama appointee mumble, “Why, why, why?”

In the mean time, reporters have supposedly decided to launch a “Where’s Rahmbo?” Web site in hopes of spreading the word about Emanuel’s sudden exit from the public stage.

As an additional effort, Emanuel’s picture will purportedly appear on milk cartons in the Greater Chicago and D.C. vicinities.

The public is being encouraged to help locate Emanuel, too.

A toll-free number has been set up. Anyone who knows anything about the whereabouts of the president-elect’s chief of staff is being asked to call 1-800-0-CHANGE.
