Left Coast Fundraiser to Star Obama

Hollywood fat cats are planning to shell out the big bucks for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.

President Obama will be the star of the multimillion dollar Beverly Hills event.

The recession doesn’t seem to have dampened donations on the left coast. The dinner tab will be $30,400 per couple. And a thousand bucks gains entrance to a reception.

Hollywood political consultant Andy Spahn told Variety that the sluggish economy is not slowing the response from potential donors.

“We will meet our goal,” Spahn bragged to Variety. “It is a tough economy, but there is tremendous excitement about Barack Obama's first appearance here as president of the United States.”

Spahn gushed about the “tremendous enthusiasm for the president,” and spoke glowingly about “his accomplishments in the first hundred days,” which he characterized as being “quite remarkable.”

He didn’t specify which accomplishments the Tinseltowners are excited about. The beauty of Hollywood donors is that most of them haven’t got a clue about what is really going on in Washington, D.C. No matter. The excitement in town is based primarily on the fact that President Obama is not George Bush.

Because this is the first left coast fundraiser since the election, some of Obama’s longtime celebrity supporters, like George Clooney, Halle Berry, Oprah Winfrey, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck, may drop in to cheer on the man they helped get elected.

The Tinseltown triplets of DreamWorks will assist with the hosting at the Beverly Hilton. Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen always seem ready and willing to cough up more cash and refill the coffers of the DNC.

Jennifer Hudson and Earth, Wind & Fire will serenade the well-heeled crowd.

Meanwhile the rest of us across the nation will just have to make do with our "American Idol" reruns and leftover pizza.

Speaking of Hollywood’s most loaded, looks like Michael Moore is going to try to pin the blame for the global economic meltdown on the rich.

The Oscar-winning multi-millionaire filmmaker recently gave a glimpse into his new untitled documentary by saying, “The wealthy, at some point, decided they didn't have enough wealth. They wanted more — a lot more. So they systematically set about to fleece the American people out of their hard-earned money.”

The likely capitalist hit piece is due out in October.

Several months ago Moore sought out experts from the financial industry via his Web site. He was looking for folks who wanted to “be a hero” and help him “expose the biggest swindle in American history.”

Rumor has it that Barney Frank and Chris Dodd may agree to do a cameo in the film, but only if they’re allowed to wear bags over their heads.
