1. Michael Douglas Gets Nuke Moderator Gig

A panel of experts recently convened in Washington, D.C. to discuss the important issue of nuclear weaponry.

Panel members included former Sen. Chuck Hagel, former Sen. Sam Nunn, and former U.S. diplomat Robert Gallucci, who was chief negotiator during the 1994 nuclear crisis with North Korea.

Moderating the discussion and asking the pertinent questions was super-duper nuke expert, Michael Douglas.

Why would a Hollywood celebrity be picked for the moderator job?

Apparently because of the extraordinary expertise he acquired when he starred in a film about a crisis at a nuclear power plant.

It was the 1979 flick, “The China Syndrome.”

What’s next? Miss Piggy emceeing a panel on the swine flu?

2. Alec Baldwin Gets Banned From Philippines

Alec Baldwin has been banned from entering the Philippines because of a joke he told on “Late Night with David Letterman.”

On the show, Baldwin said he was thinking about paying for a “Filipino mail-order bride” so he could have more kids.

Now the Philippines Bureau of Immigration has put the actor on a blacklist, calling him “an undesirable alien.”

Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said, “By being on the bureau's blacklist, Baldwin is forbidden from entering the country.”

Officials apparently didn't like Baldwin's apology, where he blogged that he was sorry for “the perceived insensitivity of that remark.”

Maybe the rumors about Baldwin pondering a political career are true. Apologizing for “perceived insensitivity” implies that the parties that were offended made the error. It may be the ultimate sham apology.

3. Michael Moore Sets Film Sights on the Rich

Looks like Michael Moore is going to try to pin the blame for the global economic meltdown on the rich.

The Oscar-winning multimillionaire filmmaker recently gave a glimpse into his new untitled documentary by saying, “The wealthy, at some point, decided they didn't have enough wealth. They wanted more — a lot more. So they systematically set about to fleece the American people out of their hard-earned money.”

The likely capitalist hit-piece is due out in October.

Several months ago Moore sought out experts from the financial industry via his Web site. He was looking for folks who wanted to “be a hero” and help him “expose the biggest swindle in American history.”

Rumor has it that Barney Frank and Chris Dodd may agree to appear in the film, but only if they’re allowed to wear paper bags over their heads.

4. Left Coast Fundraiser to Star Obama

Hollywood fat cats are planning to shell out the big bucks for a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.

President Obama will be the star of the multimillion dollar Beverly Hills event.

The recession doesn’t seem to have dampened donations on the left coast. The dinner tab will be $30,400 per couple. And a thousand bucks gains entrance to a reception.

It will be the first Los Angeles appearance for Obama since he became president.

Jennifer Hudson and Earth, Wind & Fire will serenade the well-heeled crowd.

Meanwhile the rest of us across the nation will just have to make do with our "American Idol" reruns and leftover pizza.

5. Attacks Continue on Carrie Prejean

There are some in the media that just can't stop going after Carrie Prejean.

Now a woman has surfaced who says she had an affair with the mother of Miss California.

Guess even Carrie’s family isn’t off limits for those who hate her beliefs.

Valerie Vetrano, an openly gay sales rep from Corona, Calif., went to the press to announce that she had a lesbian relationship with Prejean's mom, Francine Coppola.

Vetrano told ABC News that she dated Carrie’s mother.

The claim was also reported by Star magazine, which alleged that the relationship just ended “a couple weeks before Carrie Prejean was in the Miss USA competition.”

The attack on Miss California has also hit a collateral target — Donald Trump.

On the E! channel site, the title of an article poses this question: “Is Donald Trump Anti-Gay?”

The article cites Miss Nevada 2007, Katie Rees, who was stripped of her title. The E! channel writer asks, “Was it because Miss Nevada was kissing a girl in one of the leaked photos?”

The writer also calls the Donald a “bimbo-lovin' dude.”

Ivana, Marla, and Melania may take offense at that one.
