Best Treatments for Migraine Headaches

Migraine is a medical condition in which a patient suffers from a severe headache. Vomiting may also accompany the headache. Migraine is a complex neurological disease that affects the central nervous system. A migraine is more likely to affect women than men. Nausea and sensitivity to sound and light may also accompany a migraine. Pain arising from a migraine headache may last from a few hours to days. A tension headache can be treated using medication. Natural remedies can also provide relief from this headache. Changes in lifestyle can be of great help to provide relief from tension and migraine symptoms. Stress, tension, and hormonal changes are some causes of a migraine headache.
Painkillers can be the best treatment for a migraine headache. Medication like aspirin or paracetamol can provide relief. Taking medication at an early stage can prevent severity of the headache. The recommended dose of medication for adults is 900 milligrams of aspirin and 1,000 milligrams of paracetamol. Anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen may bring greater relief than painkillers. A combination of drugs including anti-sickness medication and anti-inflammatory medication can work well. Sometimes, a headache is accompanied by nausea and vomiting. In this case, anti-sickness medication can help. Preventive medication like cardiovascular drugs and antidepressants can be beneficial for the patients of headache.      
Other than medications, natural remedies can provide great relief to the patients. Drinking plenty of water can prevent headaches, as dehydration may be a cause of migraines. Rubbing peppermint oil on the head is among the home remedies that provide relief from the headache. Daily intake of 400 to 600 milligrams of magnesium is among the effective remedies for migraines but it should not be taken in any higher amount. Daily consumption of 300 milligrams of coenzyme Q10 is one of the beneficial remedies for reducing the headache. Eating ginger can be among the other home remedies for headaches. Eating ginger raw or in the form of capsules can also be among effective home remedies. Fish oil may be among the remedies for reducing inflammation but there is no evidence available to prove this. Butterbur pills are useful remedies to treat the pain caused by headaches. Other alternative remedies including biofeedback, massages, and acupuncture that can also be good treatment options for providing relief from the symptoms of a migraine.
