5 Brain Foods to Avert Alzheimer's Disease and Maintain Brain Health

Growing incidences of Alzheimer’s disease and other brain health disorders have encouraged research on healthy foods that help prevent memory problems and protect brain health. These foods are called brain foods. They are mainly intended to provide nutrition to the brain and ensure good circulation of blood, thus improving memory.

Cinnamon:
This is a staple kitchen spice and a potent brain food. Taking cinnamon in tea form or its powder used in food is effective for brain health. Cinnamon contains proanthocyanidin and cinnamaldehyde, which reduce the beta amyloid protein, the main culprit for Alzheimer’s disease.

Omega-3 fatty acids: Another important brain food is fatty acids that are obtained from fish, walnuts, flax seeds, and olive oil. Eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids slow cognitive decline in Alzheimer’s patients. This brain food is recommended by most of the dieticians for sharp memory.

Turmeric:
This is a common herb in most Indian recipes. Curcumin present in turmeric is rich in medicinal properties. Turmeric has a good effect on memory. Curcumin is a powerful anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-amyloid compound, which is great for brain health and prevents Alzheimer’s disease. Curcumin binds to amyloid proteins and prevents them from grouping together to form plaque, thereby maintaining brain health.

Berries: Including berries in the food for brain health and preventing Alzheimer’s disease is a yummy and intelligent idea. The anthocyanins and flavonoids present in berries are responsible for its different colors like blue, pink, orange, etc. Strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries are all useful food as memory boosters. Berries are rich in anti-oxidants, which fight with the free radicals in the blood that can destroy the brain cells. Research confirms that foods rich in flavonoids reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Walnuts:
They contain omega-3 fatty acids, flavonoids, and vitamin E, which protect the brain cells and improve brain health, motor functions, and memory. Walnuts don't look like brains for nothing; they are the real brain foods accepted worldwide.
