WebMD said those with depression
can create a personalized support group to "stay on top" of their illness and treatments. Family, it notes, offers a great place to talk along with friends and coworkers.
The website also suggested connecting with faith-based organizations near you "whether from the pastor, rabbi, or other religious leader, small groups, or caring individuals within the organizations."
WebMD cited the power of a depression support group in helping to support those with depression in a safe and loving environment. Together, it noted, people learn better strategies to cope and to understand that "someone else knows what I am going through," as camaraderie and trust are built.
Some of those support groups are now on social media, including the Anxiety and Depression Support Group Facebook page
Information about groups is available on the Anxiety and Depression Association of America website

The ADAA noted of the importance of treatment: "Anxiety disorders are treatable, and the vast majority of people with an anxiety disorder can be helped with professional care. Success of treatment varies. Some may respond to treatment after a few weeks or months, while others may need more than a year. Treatment may be complicated if people have more than one anxiety disorder or if they suffer from depression, substance abuse, or other co-existing conditions. This is why treatment must be tailored specifically for each individual."
