Symptoms of Chronic Pelvic Pain

In some people, the causes of chronic pelvic pain are rather common and, in such cases, the symptoms of chronic pelvic pain are mild. Mild symptoms of chronic pelvic pain include mild pain in the pelvic area and discomfort in the abdominal area. These symptoms are easily overcome with rest and mild pain medication.

However, in some people, chronic pelvic pain is caused by more severe conditions such as fibromyalgia and sciatica. In such cases of chronic pelvic pain, the pain in pelvic region is almost constant and the person may also experience certain peaks or sharp pains from time to time.

Other symptoms of chronic pelvic pain also include sudden or unexpected vaginal bleeding, occurrence of vaginal discharge, constipation, and improper bowel movement to name a few.
Most people who undergo chronic pelvic pain also experience pain in the lower back region and the pain is usually not overcome by merely taking rest. Sciatica is one of the other symptoms of chronic pelvic pain.

Causes of Chronic Pelvic Pain

There are many causes such as fibromyalgia and sciatica that could cause the symptoms of chronic pelvic pain.
In different people there are different causes of chronic pelvic pain and, based on the causes, the symptoms, their adversity, and the methods to alleviate chronic pelvic pain will also differ.

Fibromyalgia affects about 2 to 4 percent of the total population with a female-to-male ratio of 9 to 1. The symptoms of fibromyalgia include severe pain, nerve pain, weakness, fatigue, muscle spasms, sleep disturbance, twitches, and abdominal problems to name a few. Fibromyalgia often causes the symptoms of chronic pelvic pain.

Rheumatoid arthritis also causes fibromyalgia in 10 to 20 percent of the cases and causes the symptoms of chronic pelvic pain.

Sciatica causes pain in the nerves of the lower back and in turn causes the symptoms of chronic pelvic pain to appear.

Endometriosis is also known to be one of the causes of chronic pelvic pain symptoms. In this case, the specialized tissue lining the inner layer of the uterus also grows outside the uterus and causes severe chronic pelvic pain when these cells are unable to be removed from the system during the usual menstrual cycle. As in fibromyalgia and sciatica, severe pelvic pain and distress may be caused.

Painful bladder syndrome caused by cyst in the bladder is also known to cause the symptoms of chronic pelvic pain. Irritable bowel syndrome has symptoms such as bloating, constipation, and diarrhea, which are also known to cause chronic pelvic pain.

Psychological factors such as depression, chronic stress, and emotional distress may also cause the symptoms of chronic pelvic pain.

Hence, if you notice the symptoms of chronic pelvic pain, it is best that you consult your physician for medical advice and treat fibromyalgia, sciatica, and other possible causes.
