Fighting Metabolic Syndrome With BergaMet

Saturday, 21 December 2013 06:00 PM EST

BergaMet is a patent product, containing bergamot orange fruit extract, owned by NatHealth Solutions. Bergamot is useful in reducing cholesterol and combating metabolic syndrome.

The plant Citrus bergamia or the bergamot orange belongs to citrus family and seems to be a hybrid of Citrus limetta and Citrus aurantium. This plant grows in Calabria region of southern Italy. Bergamot fruit found here contains higher content of flavonoids and is superior to the bergamot fruit grown elsewhere. Bergamot in Italian means ‘prince of pears.’

Citrus bergamia contains melitidin, naringin and brutieridin that have statin-like results in reducing bad cholesterol. Bergamot fruit extract has been found effective in reducing total cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins, triglycerides, and blood sugar significantly while raising high-density lipoproteins (good cholesterol).

BergaMet induces hypolipidemic activity and targets various conditions linked to metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a multitude of health problems like high blood pressure, hypercholesterol, abdominal obesity, and high blood glucose caused by impaired metabolism, making people prone to heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Metabolic syndrome, or diabesity, is growing at an epidemic-like rate. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the metabolic syndrome, also known as pre-diabetes, affects 75 million people in the U.S. alone. It is recommended to lose weight, stop smoking, reduce blood sugar level, intake a fiber-rich diet, and exercise to prevent the onset of metabolic syndrome.

BergaMet claims to be the only product that addresses all the problems of metabolic syndrome. BergaMet has been clinically evaluated for its benefits on metabolic syndrome and has also been found effective in synergizing the effects of statins.

BergaMet MEGA is available in a vial of 60 tablets, each containing 650 milligrams of pure bergamot fruit extract (dehydrated) and 50 milligrams of ascorbic acid. It is recommended to take BergaMet MEGA tablet twice a day preferably 20 to 30 minutes before major meals.
But bergamot fruit extract should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation. A study conducted by the department of cardiology at the University of Rome, found during a double blind placebo-controlled trial that bergamot fruit extract is an effective nutraceutical approach for supporting cardiovascular health. It is the bergamot polyphenolic extract that works well in metabolic syndrome conditions, hence BergaMet with higher concentrations of bergamot polyphenolic extracts helps fight metabolic syndrome.
