Want to know how high air pollution levels are in your community? Well, now there’s an app for that.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s new, free AIRNow application – for Apple and Android smartphones – provides instant updates to anyone who downloads it.
Users enter a Zip Code and can receive pollution and smog levels for more than 400 United States cities.
The app is particularly useful for people with heart or lung conditions, who are most at risk when air quality deteriorates. The AIRNow app can tell you if overall air quality is “good,” “moderate,” “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” “unhealthy,” “very unhealthy” and “hazardous.”
It also also offers a color-coded map of the United States showing current air quality and the forecast.
