When it comes to losing weight, which approach is better: Cutting out sugar or limiting fat in your diet?
In an effort to provide a definitive answer, two 35-year-old identical twin doctors put the two approaches to the test. Chris and Xand van Tulleken conducted a month-long experiment, the
Daily Express reports.
While Chris, a physician at University College Hospital, London went on a low-fat, high-carb diet, Xand, director of the Institute of Humanitarian Affairs at Fordham University in New York, opted for a high-fat, low-carb regimen.
ALERT: Ladies, You’ll Never Lose Weight Until You Do This!
According to an article Xand wrote for The Daily Mail, both brothers both lost weight but Xand lost the most — nine pounds in one month.
In conclusion, the brothers determined that eliminating a single item — like fat or sugar from the diet — is not a solution to weight loss. What's more, the British twins concluded that the real villains when it comes to weight gain are processed foods that contain a combination of high fat and high sugar.
"It is about building an environment in your life where you could easily eat a cheap and healthy diet and get enough exercise," Chris said. "It is amazing that we are not all fat and I come away with a sense that I know enough about diet and nutrition and I should be reducing the calories and building an environment where I can do that rather than looking for one toxic ingredient."
