Avoid Antibiotics

Erika Schwartz, M.D By Tuesday, 23 January 2018 04:51 PM EST Current | Bio | Archive

Treatment with antibiotics for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is ubiquitous, even though most of the time there is no proven bacterial infection associated.

Thus, there’s no real indication to treat.

Unfortunately, most patients feel that if they walk out of a doctor’s office with a prescription for an antibiotic, that will solve their problem.

Instead, they destroy the normal intestinal bacterial flora, leaving their intestines damaged and vulnerable.

I strongly suggest that you try to avoid antibiotics unless you have a proven bacterial infection. In most cases, letting your body heal itself is your best course of action.
