Testosterone Reduces Hospitalizations

Doctors do not like to re-hospitalize patients. After all, the goal is to get a patient healthy enough so that they don’t have to be in the hospital. In addition, many insurance companies will not pay for re-hospitalizations within 30 days of discharge.

Doctors studied whether therapy with testosterone could reduce a 30-day re-hospitalization rate among older men. The researchers studied 6,372 nonsurgical hospitalizations for male patients older than 66 years with a previous diagnosis of testosterone deficiency, and published their results in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings.

The authors found that the men who received testosterone therapy had a 27 percent lower risk of re-hospitalization.

The authors concluded, “Androgen therapy may reduce the risk of re-hospitalization in older men with testosterone deficiency.”

The conclusion from this study should come as no surprise. Prior studies found similar results.

Testosterone is a muscle-building androgen hormone. Having a proper balance of hormones is essential for achieving your optimal health.

In the case of an older man with low testosterone levels, it is obvious that healing will be difficult if he does not have the proper tissue-building hormones.
