Students and protesters of Israel's war at Columbia University have amassed a tent city at the college. This action follows a recent NYPD raid that cleared a similar encampment, resulting in over 100 arrests, the New York Post reported Sunday.
The resurgence of protests has heightened tensions on campus, particularly among Jewish students, leading to increased security and alternative class arrangements. A university rabbi has advised Jewish students to remain off-campus due to safety concerns, and university officials have sanctioned online classes in response.
"We are looking for our demands, and we are going to continue that," a protester declared to the Post. "We are here forever. We're here as long as [it takes until] Columbia meets our demands."
The protesters are advocating for the university to divest from Israel.
Columbia has warned that setting up tents violates campus policies, but the protesters remain steadfast.
"Those who do are in violation of longstanding university policy and will be identified and subjected to disciplinary action," a university representative stated.
Criticism of the protesters has come from across the political spectrum, with Democrats, Republicans and mainstream journalists, including CNN's Jake Tapper, slamming the protesters for shouting antisemitic slogans.
