The adage everything is bigger in Texas was recently tested when Dallas-based Neiman Marcus released its Christmas catalog and offered a dozen Neiman Marcus Edition McLaren 12C Spider cars at a whopping $354,000.
The most staggering fact, however, isn’t the price, but how quickly they sold out. According to published reports they were scarfed up in less than two hours.
The Wall Street Journal noted how quickly wealthy Neiman Marcus customers purchased the speedy British roadsters without so much as touching the rich upholstery or even going for a test ride.

This is clearly not your father’s Chevrolet.
But if they did have an up close and personal tour of the car, buyers would have seen the butterfly wing-like doors that open when you push a button, according to USA Today. The rich interior has red contrast stitching and is butter soft. Once you get the car out on a highway or speedway, where you can really let it fly, the 616-horsepower V-8 engine will get you to 60 miles an hour in a teeth-chattering 3.2 seconds.
The retailer and catalog giant hasn’t announced when the car will be ready for delivery, but did offer some extras for those lucky enough to buy them. The purchase price includes first-class airfare to England and two nights in a five-star hotel and spa, as well as a tour of the McLaren Technology Center. The only meal mentioned in the ad once in England is one with McLaren Chairman Ron Dennis. But Neiman Marcus does offer some high end foods in the holiday catalogue if buyers want to pack some food for the trip.
The wealthy dozen won’t have to worry about luggage. The car, which comes in “Volcano Red,” includes a matching McLaren luggage set, USA Today reported.
