Boeing Sends More Than 1,000 Layoff Notices

Friday, 19 February 2010 01:23 PM EST

Boeing Co. says it is sending out layoff notices to more than 1,000 people, most of them technology workers in Washington state and California.

The notices that went out on Friday mean the workers are at risk for being laid off April 23. The number of workers to be laid off could shrink.

Boeing spokesman Tim Healy says 500 of the workers are in the Puget Sound area in Washington, where Boeing's commercial airplanes division is based. Roughly 300 are in California, with the rest of the affected workers scattered in other states.
