Dissident blogger Yoani Sanchez on Wednesday launched her long-awaited digital newspaper, the first media outlet since the Cuban Revolution not under state control.
The first edition featured a report on overnight violence in Havana and an interview with an opposition writer.
The site also posted personal notes written by noted figures from around the world, including Nobel prize-winning writer Mario Vargas Llosa and Polish Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa.
Sanchez has said that the newspaper would be distributed via cellphone and e-mail, as well as through digital memory devices like USB flash drives, DVDs and CDs.
