Clyburn: Attacks over Healthcare Equal Terrorism

By    |   Friday, 26 March 2010 09:25 AM

Threats and attacks made against Democrats who supported the healthcare reform bill amount to terrorism, says House Democratic Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina.

Republicans must express their opposition to this activity in order to make it stop, he told MSNBC.

Clyburn, the highest ranking black lawmaker, says he received a fax with an image of a noose. Others received threatening phone calls.

“This stuff is beyond the pale,” Clyburn said. “People out in the streets get their signals or what they think are their signals from the people in positions like we hold.”

So Republicans must disown the activity, he says. “If we participate in it either from the balcony or the floor of the House, you are aiding and abetting this kind of terrorism really.”
