The Democratic National Committee revealed the party's game plan for the 2010 midterm elections on Monday, with an e-mail blast to supporters and a video starring President Barack Obama.
In the mass e-mail, senior Obama adviser David Plouffe says Democrats have “crafted a comprehensive electoral plan that can make a big difference in the upcoming elections” and predicts that the party is “in for a tough fight this fall.
“Historical trends aren't in our favor -- the president's party generally loses seats in the first midterm election. … The prognosticators and pundits are predicting steep losses for the Democrats. The Republicans are already measuring the drapes for their new offices, saying that anything short of an electoral landslide that gives them back control of Congress won't be a victory. …
“I believe we can avoid the nightmare electoral scenario that Republicans in Washington have already convinced themselves will happen. But only if we work together.”

The e-mail contains a video of Obama outlining the Democrats' electoral goals in advance of the November elections.
The thrust of the video is Obama's plan to “reconnect” with the same voters who turned out in high numbers to elect him in 2008, hoping that they will be a Democratic force at the voting booth this fall.
The president called on “young people, African-Americans, Latinos, and women who powered our victory in 2008 [to] stand together once again."
