Chrysler Finishes '09 With Worst Sales in 47 Years

Tuesday, 05 January 2010 12:25 PM EST

Chrysler Group LLC says 2009 was its worst sales year in 47 years.

The struggling automaker says it sold just over 931,000 cars and trucks last year. Sales last dropped below 1 million in 1962.

Chrysler says its sales fell 36 percent compared with 2008 as the company received government aid and worked through bankruptcy protection.

But spokeswoman Kathy Graham says sales improved over November under Chrysler's plans to show steady progress each month.

All automakers are scheduled to report December and full-year sales figures on Tuesday.
