U.S. Challenges Geithner Deposition in AIG Lawsuit

Wednesday, 20 January 2010 11:28 AM EST

The federal government is challenging a Michigan's man request to interview the Treasury Secretary in a lawsuit over the bailout of American International Group Inc.

Government lawyers say there are no extraordinary circumstances that would permit the deposition of Timothy Geithner.

The plaintiff in the case claims the government bailout of AIG was illegal because the insurance giant has products that promote the Islamic religion.

In a court filing last week, the Justice Department said there are limits to unwinding the decision-making process of the executive branch.
