Icelandic music star Bjork will include cryptocurrency with her new album — providing digital money free to her fans who purchase the album, "Utopia," according to Engadget.

She will also allow customers to buy the album using cryptocurrency, a kind of digital currency that can be spent like money.

Included in the album will be 100 Audiocoins, a two-year-old currency originally designed for use in the music industry. One Audiocoin is worth about 19 cents, reported Engadget.

Fans will get chances to earn more Audiocoins in online interactions with the performer as well as attending her concerts, according to the Engadget report.

"People have done things with crypto and artists before, but this is the first time a global artist has done anything like this," said Kevin Bacon, the CEO of Blockpool, a startup firm partnering with Bjork on the project, according to Musically.

Blockpool is working on an online checkout so fans can pay using cryptocurrency, then the 100 AudioCoins will be deposited into an account for each buyer, Musically's report said.

"Bjork is the best artist in the world we could imagine doing this," Bacon said in Musically about the musician, who has been nominated 14 times for Grammy awards. Bjork won an Academy Award in 2000 for a song in "Dancer in the Dark."
