The majority of Americans say the economy is the number one issue determining how they will vote in this year's midterm elections, a survey says.

A recent survey by Redfield & Wilton Strategies asked respondents, "which issues are most likely to determine how you vote in the November 8, 2022 Midterm Election." The survey asked respondents to select their top three issues.

But among the litany of choices, the economy effortlessly topped the list, with 61% identifying it as a top issue.

No other issues were close. Healthcare arrived at a distant second, with 31%, placing it among the top issues. Abortion hit third at 27%, followed by immigration (22%), the environment (20%), government spending (20%), the COVID-19 pandemic (19%), policing and crime (19%), taxation (18%), housing and homelessness (16%), education (13%), election integrity and voter fraud (11%), and foreign policy and defense (10%).

The economy also stood as the top issue for both voters of President Joe Biden voters (55%) and former President Donald Trump (77%).

Some noticeable differences among the surveyed indicated that 40% of Biden voters chose abortion as their second most important issue, compared to 42% of Trump voters who chose immigration.

The survey was conducted on June 15, 2022. It contacted 1,500 eligible U.S. voters.
