The Obama administration's decision to delay Obamacare's employer mandate until 2015 is a "huge deal," according to The Washington Post Jennifer Rubin.

"In deciding to postpone the implementation of the employer mandate, the Obama administration has undermined its sole claim to greatness and delivered a blow to Democrats on the ballot in 2014," she writes.

In fact, Rubin cites seven reasons why not requiring employers with 50 or more full-time employees to provide health insurance until 2015 is "a huge setback."

1. The credibility of President Obama, who had previously said the health care law was on track to implementation, is damaged.

2. Republicans will be able to use the "I told you it was a mess" argument for the mid-term elections next year.

3. Republicans will be encouraged to prevent the mandate from ever being implemented.

4. Obama's support for big government "will undermine Americans' faith in it."

5. It will "open the floodgates" to arguments for delaying other sections of the law.

6. It will encourage the perception that Obama's second term is "a flat-out disaster."

7. "And if Obamacare is in tatters, what has Obama accomplished in his presidency?" she asks.

By eliminating insurance options for employees, the delay could increase pressure to delay the mandate for individuals to have insurance, she adds.

However, The Baltimore Sun argues that the delay sounds worse that it is.

"On a symbolic level, this move is terrible," the Sun editorial states. "In terms of the goal of expanding healthcare coverage to as many Americans as possible as soon as possible, though, its effect will likely be marginal."

Only about 5 percent of American companies have over 50 workers, and about 95 percent of those already offer health insurance. The employer mandate pales is comparison to other parts of Obamacare, such as the individual mandate, expansion of Medicaid and insurance marketplaces.

"Big companies tend to offer their employees health insurance because it enables them to attract and retain good workers, it reduces absenteeism because employees are healthier and it offers a tax-advantaged way to increase compensation," the newspaper asserts.

"That will remain true whether the employer mandate is in effect or not."
