President Donald Trump touted gains as the New York Stock Exchange opened its session significantly higher on Tuesday.
“Stock Market up BIG, DOW crosses 25,000. S&P 500 over 3000,” the president wrote on Twitter.
He stressed that “States should open up ASAP. The Transition to Greatness has started, ahead of schedule. There will be ups and downs, but next year will be one of the best ever!”
Stocks went up at the start of the session on optimism over the reopening of the economies in many states and the potential development of a vaccine for the coronavirus, even as the United States approaches 100,000 deaths during the pandemic, MarketWatch reported.
With the onset of the coronavirus and the realization of its severity, the Dow Jones Industrial Average at one point lost all the gains it had registered since Trump was elected. In March, it fell below the 18,300 mark it was on Election Day in 2016 after reaching an all-time high of more than 29,550 just a month earlier.
