Kansas banking commissioner Michelle Bowman got one step closer to the Federal Reserve Board Wednesday after the Senate advanced her nomination to a floor vote.

According to The Hill, 13 Democrats and all but one Republican voted to end debate on Bowman's nomination, which sets up a final vote that could take place as soon as this week.

The 63-36 vote moved the nomination to the final hurdle. Bowman, who since 2017 has worked as her state's banking commissioner, previously worked in the Bush administration at FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was the only Republican not to vote for an end to the debate.

President Donald Trump nominated Bowman to the board in April. That seat has remained open since 2014, when Congress passed a bill requiring the Fed to reserve one seat on its policymaking board for someone with community banking experience.
