President-elect Donald Trump has reached out to Henry Kravis, co-founder of private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., for the job of treasury secretary, the New York Post reported.
The conversation reportedly took place after Trump's defeat of Hillary Clinton on Nov. 8.
Trump mentioned Kravis' name for the job before winning the election, but has not done so since, the Post noted.
"He wants the job," one source close to Trump was quoted as saying.
"Trump has reached out to him," another source said.
Kravis, the inspiration for the "Wall Street" character Gordon Gekko, responded differently in May, when he said, "While I'm honored to be mentioned, I love my job and can't imagine leaving it."
Kravis is a lifelong friend of the Bush family and has donated primarily to Republicans, though neither he nor KKR gave in the GOP presidential primaries this year.
