Boehner: Repealing Obamacare Law Won’t Increase Deficit

Thursday, 06 January 2011 12:35 PM EST

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner said repealing the 2010 healthcare overhaul wouldn't increase the federal budget deficit, disputing an estimate by congressional budget analysts.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated today that repealing the healthcare law would deepen the deficit by $145 billion from 2012 to 2019.

Boehner, an Ohio Republican who became speaker yesterday, told reporters, “I do not believe that repealing the job- killing healthcare bill is going to increase the deficit.” The House plans to vote Jan. 12 on a repeal, which Senate Democrats have said they’ll block in their chamber.

“The best healthcare system in the world’s going to go down the drain if we don’t act,” Boehner said.
