Hytrin for Prostate: 5 Reviews From Consumers

By    |   Monday, 06 June 2016 01:51 PM EDT

Reviews from patients taking Hytrin for enlarged prostate can help you know what to expect before you begin taking the drug.

Hytrin is the brand name of the generic drug terazosin, and it belongs to a group of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. These types of drugs work to relieve symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate by relaxing the muscles in and around the prostate gland and bladder, says eMedicine Health. This helps urine pass more freely and can help reduce the frequency of urination.

Here are five patient reviews of Hytrin.

SPECIAL: The One Thing You Should Do for Your Prostate Every Morning

1. A 74-year-old patient reported on WebMD that he has been taking Hytrin since it was approved for treating enlarged prostate. He is physically active and an avid cyclist, averaging more than 150 miles each week on a bike, which can aggravate the prostate. This patient said Hytrin is effective for treating his symptoms, and he thinks the drug helps him maintain his active lifestyle.

2. An 81-year-old man reported on RxList that he used to have to get up an average of three times during the night to urinate, but since taking Hytrin, he now only needs to get up once each night. He takes the pill an hour prior to bedtime so dizziness, a common side effect, is not an issue. He has experienced no adverse sexual side effects.

3. Another patient review on RxList comes from a patient between the ages of 65 and 74. He reports that taking Hytrin has improved his urinary symptoms and, in addition, has helped to lower his borderline high blood pressure. Although he experienced some dizziness with the initial few does, that side effect is no longer a problem.

4. On WebMD, a younger patient aged 45-54 says, “I’m through with Hytrin.” He began taking Hytrin for symptoms of enlarged prostate, but the side effects of lightheadedness, sinus congestion, and low energy he experienced outweighed the benefits.

5. Another patient review on RxList also indicates the side effects of Hytrin outweighed the benefits of urinary symptom relief. For him, these side effects included lightheadedness, headaches, dry ejaculation, loss of interest in sex, and and low energy.
