Florida's Kottkamp Blasts Obama's Economic Policy

Florida Lieutenant Gov. Jeff Kottkamp strongly objects to President Obama’s intervention in the economy.

“It appears this president doesn’t have a lot of respect for the foundation of this country,” Kottkamp, a Republican candidate for state attorney general, told Newsmax.TV.

“In some ways it seems like he doesn’t have an appreciation for nation states. Everything he’s done seems to be a systematic attack on the foundation of this country.”

Kottkamp in particular objects to spending increases, tax increases, and Obama’s healthcare reform.

Basically, the president doesn’t believe in limited government, Kottkamp says. “He continues to look for government solutions when we all know … that private sector free mark solutions are what’s going to work.”

As for healthcare, Kottkamp agrees with current Attorney General Bill McCollum’s plan to sue if the Democrats’ reform plan passes.

“It’s clearly a violation of the 10th amendment,” Kottkamp said. “If the federal government can force you to buy healthcare, they can force you to do anything.”

In terms of specific Florida issues, Kottkamp opposes Obama’s space budget cuts. Those cuts will hurt workers on Florida’s space coast, where rockets are launched, he says.

In addition, the cuts deprive us of technology and put national defense in jeopardy, Kottkamp says.

He says Florida must continue to broaden its economy beyond tourism and agriculture. “For the long-term in Florida: biotechnology and life sciences, aerospace, alternative energy, digital technology. These are areas where you bring high wage jobs to your state,” Kottkamp said.

“That is the future of Florida.”

He strongly supports drilling for natural gas off Florida’s coast to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. In addition, “We have to be serious about solar energy.” Solar energy can be used to heat water in South Florida homes, Kottkamp says.

He wouldn’t indicate who he supports in the Republican primary for Senate between Charlie Crist and Marco Rubio.

“They’re two very dynamic people. It will be a very fun race to watch,” Kottkamp said. “They both have strengths and weaknesses.”
