Lady Gaga’s performance at Super Bowl LI started with the pledge of allegiance, her rendition of "God Bless America," and a dive off the roof of NRG Stadium.
The pop star, donned in full silver and glitter with red, white and blue painted across her eyes, leapt off the roof suspended from cables and onto a platform in the middle of the field.
Her first song was "Poker Face," followed by "Born This Way," a song about revolution and freedom and lack of prejudice.
"I have an opportunity with this performance to show a different part of the country that, you know, those who think that they are so different from me and my fans, to see that our hearts are really the same," Gaga told former NFL player Michael Strahan during the pregame show.
"I just really hope people get lost in it. I do. I hope genuinely that when the halftime show begins you get suspended in an alternate sense of reality in the world and for a moment can imagine something greater."
Her 13-minute performance featured plenty of dancing, her popular hit songs "Telephone," "Bad Romance" and "Just Dance," and a shout out to mom and dad while she serenaded the crowd with "Million Reasons."
The stage was the biggest Gaga's ever been on. Last year's Super Bowl was the third most watched broadcast in TV history and this one might supersede it with the popular New England Patriots facing the up-and-coming Atlanta Falcons.
Gaga started her career playing in dive bars when she was 15.
Former Vice President Joe Biden and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton praised the performance on Twitter.
