The Newsmax Rising Bestsellers list will do more than stimulate your mind. These reads may challenge your beliefs, broaden your perspectives, excite your curiosities, or widen your imagination.
These books may not necessarily appear on the official New York Times list of bestsellers, but they're the ones our Newsmax audience is reading, talking about, sharing with friends, and even buying.
Here are the Newsmax Rising Bestsellers for the week of March 30, 2020:
1. “Shakespeare in a Divided America: What His Plays Tell Us About Our Past and Future,” by James Shapiro (Penguin). Shapiro, a leading scholar and Columbia University professor, explores what Shakespeare’s plays reveal about our divided nation, from Revolutionary times to the present day. He says for well over two centuries, presidents and activists, writers and soldiers have turned to Shakespeare’s works to explore the nation’s fault lines, including such issues as manifest destiny, race, gender, immigration, and free speech. Pivotal moments include President John Quincy Adams’s disgust with Desdemona’s interracial marriage to Othello, to Abraham Lincoln’s and his assassin John Wilkes Booth’s obsessions with The Bard, to the 2017 controversy over the staging of Julius Caesar in New York’s Central Park, which featured a Trump-like leader. (Nonfiction)
2. “Drive: 9 Lessons to Win in Business and in Life,’’ by Kelly Earnhart Miller with Beth Clark (Thomas Nelson). An inspirational, practical guide to success in business and life by the daughter of racing legend Dale Earnhardt Sr. Miller, who became one of America’s most influential businesswomen in sports, opens up about growing up in the world of NASCAR, sharing the lessons she learned about being a successful business leader and what she discovered, often the hard way, about winning in life. (Nonfiction)
3. “Defend the Border and Save Lives: Solving Our Most Important Humanitarian and Security Crisis,’’ by Tom Homan (Center Street). The Former ICE director who was at the forefront of the conservative fight to secure American borders, argues that illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. He warns that if we don't control illegal immigration now, the nation will continue suffering the consequences of crime, drugs and financial strain — and it will get much worse.(Nonfiction)
44. “One Good Deed,’’ by David Baldacci (Grand Central). In this fast-paced historical thriller, Baldacci introduces Aloysius Archer, a WWII veteran forced to investigate a small-town murder — or risk returning to prison. The community quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail. Ordered to seek gainful employment, he’s hired to collect a debt for a powerful local businessman, but discovers recovering that debt won’t be so easy. Then a new murder occurs, threatening to send him back to jail. (Fiction)
55. In Unison: The Unfinished Story of Jeremy and Adrienne Camp,’’ by Jeremy Camp and Adrienne Camp (Harvest House). The contemporary Christian music singer/songwriter and ordained minister , along with his wife, share the inspiring story of their love, along with its incredible joy and devastating losses. The couple, who’ve been married for 16 years and have three kids, also offer practical advice for how to deal with conflict, manage finances, move through grief, and work to build your own family culture. They conclude that you can’t do marriage without Jesus, “and when you keep Him in the middle, together, you can build a lasting love.” (Nonfiction)
