HR5 Will Not Make Us All Equal

The LGBT community, which likely represents a minority of the U.S. population, is credited with now pushing a narrative, one which maintains the position that they deserve total equality.

This would include the right to be denoted as whichever gender they chose with all such rights accorded them — regardless of genetic endowments.

Such an unrealistic comprehension of biology and social dynamics have led to U.S. House passage of HR5 – The Equality Act. A bill which erroneously does just that.

The bill’s preamble declares simply, "To prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation, and for other purposes."

This is laudable. But does this portend amending the 1964 Civil Rights Amendment which might be fine, but the substitution for sex with the words sexual orientation are not the same. Therefore, an undermining of the genetic and biological basis of human life and sexuality would hit both womens issues and concerns hard.

By the same token HR5’s enumeration of inclusions state pregnancy, sexual orientation, or based stereotype, same sex unions (with all associated ramifications), adoption of children by any person discounting any of these protected classes, the prohibition of "conversion therapy," and personal behavior acts or any activity in which funding by the federal government is included, and are too numerous to fully detail.

Noting Health and Human Services (HHS) studies that LGBT children are overrepresented in the emergency services for mental health related issues, foster care services, a concern for human trafficking which involves children — all are also a poorly defined rationale for how this impacts those issues.

Citing the Republican 1868 initiated 14th Amendment, which was ratified  to protect the rights of slaves who were citizens and entitled to due process and rights, HR5's intent is to modify the Civil Rights Amendment — ultimately extending the equal protection clause.

A rightful fear is that such an extension is a subtle attempt at ramping up attempts to bypass citizens, and proceed to include all inhabitants in the U.S. — including illegal aliens.

Many in the conservative Christian community and orthodoxies’ of Jewish and Muslim faiths may see this as forbidding the use of religious teachings which don’t recognize gay marriages, certain medical procedures, curriculums promoting sexuality in a manner other than their views, etc.

Martina Navratilova, who is gay, says such would abolish Title IX protections for women’s sports. This could limit competition for female athletes in allowing genetic males competing as females.

In search of a more perfect union, Congress and society is trying to be all things to all people rather than stick to our nation's founding principles.

If those principles were properly upheld, they would indeed cover everyone.

In legislatures throughout the land, overreaching and overreading of who we are, a special class is being created which is not sustained in scientific fact; nor are there adequate peer challenged studies to support such.

Broad social changes of this type will be legally challenged, with incessant litigation— further increasing the national debt.

In Missouri there is a pending law designating that vegan products not be called burgers, as they contain no meat.

Thus, to the dismay of vested interests, a non-controversial position becomes just that!

Sexual orientation has many similar flaws in its logic, for males and females are different no matter what we call ourselves.

Dr. Lawrence Mayer from Johns Hopkins issued a report contravening the idea that sexual orientation is fluid. Dr. Mayer concludes there is "No evidence people are born gay or transgender."

For this position, he and others who disagree as well, are being treated as heretics.

Thus, it is the left — not the right  — denouncing science.

Susan Rice, President Barack Obama’s national security adviser noted that the president’s greatest action was passing the amendment for Gay Marriage, an amendment conflicting with the Defense of Marriage Act, supported by upwards of 60%.

The You-Tube "Ted Talks" do brilliant presentations on sex cells, noting that XX and XY are more than sex determinants, but are impregnated into every cell; this contributes to the reality that women are more at risk for certain diseases — like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus and Breast Cancer; just as men are for color blindness.

Call yourself what you may, genes make you — you.

As a family physician by training and a Jew by religion, my sense is we are fast undermining the fabric of families. A social fabric which has been the foundation of society.

This social fabric has long been supplemented by religious commandments which are also under attack, threatening what we believe and why.

Pay close attention to where our children are going, for once their minds are captured, our future can be easily imperiled. Here’s hoping the U.S. Senate examines the implications of HR5 before it jumps on board.
